Directions to the Hatcher Gallery

The Hatcher Gallery (Room 100) is located in the southeast corner of floor 1 of Hatcher North, directly off the lobby.

A ramp leads into the gallery. It is very steep and may not be usable for some people with mobility impairments. There is an alternate route via floor 2 of Hatcher North. 

Routes that do not require using the ramp or stairs include narrow passageways through the stacks and sets of doors that do not open automatically. Please ask staff at any desk if you need help navigating the Hatcher Library building and getting where you need to go.

Entering through Hatcher North

The Hatcher North entrance is located off the Diag. Use the central stairs or a ramp on either side of the building. The east (left) pedestrian ramp meets Americans with Disabilities Act standards for steepness and surface condition, but the west ramp does not. There is an automatic door at the entrance. 

After going through the doors and vestibule, you'll be in the Hatcher North lobby. 

  1. Head towards the back left corner and the entrance to the gallery is after the main staircase. 

  2. Go up the ramp and you have arrived.

The route with no incline or stairs requires going to floor 2 of Hatcher North. Take either north lobby elevator (located in the southwest corner) to floor 2, then head toward the central area of the floor and follow the route below.

Entering through Hatcher South

The Hatcher South entrance is located off South University Avenue behind the Clements Library. It is wheelchair accessible, has an automatic door, and no incline. 

To get to the gallery on floor 1 of Hatcher North:

  1. Take the elevator to floor 2.
  2. Exit and turn right to enter Hatcher North. Go just past the bank of computers. At this point you can continue with these directions or follow the ones for a route with no incline or stairs.
  3. Continue to the end of the floor, take the elevators to the left outside Serials and Microforms Services or either side of the main staircase outside the Hatcher Reference Reading Room to floor 1.
  4. Arrive in the lobby and go up the ramp to the gallery in the southeast corner.

You can also take the stairs from the south lobby and pass through the Hatcher North stacks over to floor 1, but that's an advanced route!

Route with no incline or stairs from floor 2 of Hatcher North

Whether you arrived on floor 2 from the Hatcher North or South elevator, the route with no incline or stairs is the same:

  1. Enter the double doors labeled "North Stacks" in the central area of the floor on the east wall. 
  2. Follow the yellow tape on the floor until you arrive at another set of double doors.
  3. Go through the doors into the elevator lobby and take either one down to floor 1.
  4. Exit the elevator into the floor 1 lobby and enter the door across from the elevators into the book stacks. 
  5. Follow the yellow tape on the floor until you pass a set of stairs on your right. After the stairs is a door labeled "Hatcher Gallery Accessible Access." Use this door to enter the Hatcher Gallery.
  6. Walk to the left around the glassed-in area in front of you and you have arrived.
